PERFORMANCE

Workshops and performances will involve the public in open, interactive spaces. Design off limits is the fil-rouge of this 2007 edition. This topic was chosen to highlight one of the contemporary issues that design has to consider when it envisages future scenarios, when it trespasses beyond its own disciplinary boundaries, when it deals with extreme conditions, when it tackles certain key concepts of the visual and material culture of global society and digital communications such as hybridisation, transfer and contamination.

Perhaps, the days of our life are the days of excess, more sound than image. But, are still we able to listen? A german handbook of conversation, a Goldoni's theatrical piece. A german woman, a venetian man. A female actor, Marilù Prati, tries to repeat exactly what she listens.

  THE.SIGN TASTEFLOOR | VIVARIUM UPC
video-audio project

5 | 13.10.07 - h. 20 | 22

For ROMA DESIGN PIU' they present - from 5/10 to 13/10 - the attractive misture of two different productions -KINOCULATOR and I PASSIONISTI - both related to the Art of the Cinema and his hybrid derivations: visual art, visual-scape, djing e soundscape in visual ambience.

THE.SIGN TASTEFLOOR | GIOVANNI SCAFURO
Fork in Progress | Table Giovanni Scafuro
7.10.07 - h. 20 | 22
a cura di Ivana Carmen Mottola

Some people gulp down their food, others always start on the same side of the plate and manage each mouthful with precise symmetry while others tackle food as if it were the enemy. Eating becomes a kaleidoscope of our deepest idiosyncrasies if not neuroses of our daily life, a phantasmagoria of the absurd relationship we have with parts of ourselves and with those of others. So why then are we surprised when cutlery has its own, perhaps extrovert, perverse or eccentric personality?

Scafuro manipulates different materials - at time more traditional or innovative. This leads him to experiment with new techniques and with a whole host of shapes. But his real inspiration came from a fork: the challenge of a shape as old and archetypal as it was pliable and versatile for him. The fork became his privileged mode of expression, the boundary to contain his research and a compass to guide him.

THE.SIGN TASTEFLOOR | BARBARA UDERSO
Free Zero | Table Barbara Uderzo
10.10.07 - h. 20 | 22
a cura di Ivana Mottola

I'm interested in creating transient objects where the conceptual part of my work is crucial: I focus on the design and how the wearer will react. I'm inspired not only by precious materials, but also by wood, plastic, paper, wax, edible foodstuffs like chocolate or snow. FREE ZERO are ornaments/objects for the body made out of solid water, snow or ice; this jewellery is self-consuming finally leaving the body free and eliminating shapes and matter.

THE.SIGN TASTEFLOOR | VALERIA VOCATURO
Cuoche per caso installazione LUDOVICO SARTOR
11.10.07 - h. 20 | 22
a cura di Ivana Carmen Mottola

The installation by Ludovico Sartor is a chromatic visualisation of the flavours a tongue can taste. Compared to the four gustatory areas discovered by science in the tongue, we have to add another two, for a total of six pictorial objects that represent the six flavours a tongue can taste: salty, sweet, bitter, acidic, spicy and tart. The two extra flavours are the tongue's memory.

THE.SIGN TASTEFLOOR | ZILLA borse
installazione LUDOVICO SARTOR
12.10.07 - h. 20 | 22
a cura di Ivana Carmen Mottola

Zilla bags are made of materials that are unusual, at least for this type of accessory. Air filters for cooker hoods, vinyl rubber, rubber floor mats, latex for gaskets, rubber sponge, film metal, etc. Very often these materials are familiar, but become unrecognisable when used to make bags - even their conceptual image changes.
